Whether you already have a Ring doorbell or not, should you need to upgrade to latest one? That is a big question you can ask. Let’s read this review to find that answer.

Well, Ring video doorbell 3 cost 200 USD and its slightly advanced Ring video Doorbell 3 plus cost 30 dollars extra. Of course that 30 dollars bring some more feature but everything almost same. So, it will be exact to call it Ring Video Doorbell 3 plus review.

So, lets dig deeper into the new ring video doorbell.

Ring Video Doorbell 3 and 3 plus Review

Ring video doorbell 3

Key Features

  • Full HD video recording Capability.
  • Advanced motion detection system.
  • Support 5.0 GHz and 2.4 GHz both WiFi band.
  • Better sound quality
  • 4 second earlier video on 3 plus.

In a sudden look, these new doorbell looks exactly the same as the previous versions. But when you will get closer you can see that the new versions are actually large in size. To be exact in dimension it is 5.1 inches tall, 2.4 inches wide and 1.1 inches thick. Well as I mentioned ring video doorbell 3 and 3 plus are the exact same size.

Easy to install and control

There is no complication in installing this video doorbell. You just need to follow the guideline that given in the box to install. According to your expertise and speed it can be done withing 5 to 10 minutes. Also it is very easy to connect with Ring App to control through smartphone Tablet or PC. And, if you have internet connection you can see what is happening and talk with others from anywhere.

Well, still these doorbell has the same 160° field of view but they improved video quality. You can record and stream 1080p video. And, as you know you can see what is happening in front of your door from PC, Tablet or Smartphone. Also, you can talk to them as well.

But in the real world it is more advance than normal 1080p camera and picture sound quality is also great and improved from its predecessors.

Improved Motion sensor

These new video doorbell from Ring has improved their motion detecting system than their ring video doorbell 2 and previous versions. Now it can detect more accurate and keeps your home safer than the past. Anywhere pass near the doorbell it can detect that motion and send a signal in your phone. Well for ring video doorbell 3 plus has more advanced features to start recording 4 seconds earlier than sending a signal into your smartphone. That maybe make you eager to buy the newer version I guess. Well if we precisely say the new motion detection capability, it can detect any movement 5-15 feet from the doorbell. Also, it allows you to draw four corners where your camera can’t see clearly which makes it vulnerable. So, the newer version will detect any movement in these four corners and send you an alert signal through your smartphone.

Supports in any WiFi network

Most of the time you get confused or frustrated because you have 5 GHz WiFi band but your doorbell only supports 2.4 GHz. That will not happen again with these new Ring video doorbell 3 and 3 plus. They support both 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz WiFi band. I think it is a big movement. And looking forward to seeing this feature in any other smart doorbell or other smart home devices.

Battery or Wired power

According to your personal preference, you can run these video doorbell with a battery that will be included in the box or you can add the wired connection as well. You may ask about the battery lasting time. According to your use, it can last 3 weeks to 3 months. Also, weather can be distinguished into battery performance.

But as a doorbell this is far more enough battery power that you can expect. And you can see the remaining battery power through the ring app in your smartphone.

Ring Video doorbell 3 can handle weather condition very well

Since you have to install it outside of your home weather handling capability can be issue. Luckily it can handle frozen temperature to skin burning temperature without any problem. Also these video doorbells are splash proof. But direct submerging into the water is not recommended at all. It will obviously do catastrophic damage.

Still requires subscription

One thing that I don’t like about ring video doorbells is its cloud subscription. There is no option for physical storage capacity. Which makes it more costly to bare. If you are looking to share the doorbell video with other family members then cost goes more than double. I personally don’t think that is a good idea to get a doorbell in 200 dollars and spend more than its price within less than two years of subscription. I would say if there is possible Ring should add at least an option for physical video recording. But as because it is a doorbell external memory card is not the safe option at all. So, along with cloud storage, they just have to test by putting physical memory for recording.

Still no google home integration

Although everything can be done through the smartphone via Ring App. But still we all like to do everything with voice commands. For that already they have Alexa integration. So, if you echo show device you can talk and see what is happening without your smartphone. But still they haven’t add Google Home integration that is a big drawback from my perspective.

How to install Ring Video Doorbell 3 or 3 plus?

Well first you need fully charge the battery then mount the doorbell in a suitable position. Well that obviously anywhere around your main door. After that follow the instruction which is given in the box and App. Let’s just watch this video to have better idea.

How to connect with Alexa?

  1. Open the Alexa app on your smartphone. …
  2. Then In the menu that appears, tap Skills & Games.
  3. from the next screen tap on the search box and search for Ring.
  4. After you’ve found Ring, tap the enable button.
  5. Next, Alexa will ask you to sign in to your Ring account. …
  6. Next, Alexa will ask you to sign in to your Ring account. Doing so will link your Ring account to your Alexa account.
  7. After signing in, you’ll be asked to discover devices. Tap the Discover Devices button. All of your Ring devices should appear and be connected to Alexa automatically. If you don’t want Alexa to integrate with a particular Ring device, simply tap Forget on the right side.

Final Verdict

Everything that offers by these ring video doorbell 3 or 3 plus was discussed above. I think that monthly subscription is only bothering to get it. But, if you have other ring devices in your home then it shouldn’t be too much money since they all work under one subscription. Hence, get it or don’t get it for your home still it is the best one ever in the market. But if you compare with ring video doorbell 2 then I would say, this is not a worthy upgrade. But for the first generation Ring Doorbell, it will be definitely worthy video doorbell to upgrade.
